Most importantly, SPA residents must be capable of living independently. The almshouse provides no health care beyond arranging for outside carers to attend to residents if necessary.
Residents are responsible for keeping their own flats clean and habitable, cannot make repairs or redecorate without permission, and must never change locks so that managers can always gain access in an emergency.
Overnight visitors are not allowed in residents’ flats but a guest room is available for a modest fee. Dogs are not permitted but you may bring your well behaved cat.
Charges for a flat at SPA take the form of a weekly maintenance contribution (WMC), which includes the cost of heating, lighting and hot water used inside the flats but not other expenses such as broadband and TV licences.
If you receive housing benefit or Universal Credit Camden Council may help to cover the WMC excluding its energy costs element.
The current WMC rate ranges from £200.00 per week, of which £164.10 is eligible for housing benefit, to £273.40 per week, of which £230.70 is eligible for housing benefit.
